Arise & Shine – South East Bloc Campus Retreat 2022

The 2022 South East Bloc Campus Retreat tagged “Arise & Shine” was a huge success to the glory of God as 32 campus students converged in Port Harcourt city for a 3-day retreat despite the ongoing ASUU strike. It was a weekend that demonstrated God’s wonderful power through the Holy Spirit’s leadership to impact and bless all the participants.

The retreat which was held from the 1st to the 3rd of July 2022 witnessed students from Uyo, Aba, Yenagoa, Calabar, and Port Harcourt. Amongst the event’s lineup was a special brain teaser session anchored by Ajayi Oladipo which taught the students to be more proactive in addressing different situations of life through positive thinking. On Day 2, the students held a morning devotion session with a class titled – The Armor of God which was taught by Nathaniel Afamoh who cited Ephesians 6:10-18 as the key scripture.

An entrepreneurship class was taught by Akin & Tope Tytler which focused on capacity building as well as productivity while Emmanuel Emeh taught the students a powerful class on financial stability and balancing spirituality as well as academics. This class was titled Building Spiritual Habits and Commitment.

The delegates were treated to hours of memorable fun at a dinner party tagged Unleash The Mask.

The Sunday worship service which marked the end of the retreat was led and coordinated by students. The sermon with a theme of Arise & Shine was delivered by Gideon Asikong a student at the University of Calabar. The key text was from Matthew 5:14-16. Gideon related the scriptures to the life of Joseph who rose to become the prime minister of Egypt despite his earlier tribulations. Joseph never allowed the things happening around him to take away his value as the salt of the earth or take away his worth as the light of the world. Rather he chose to Arise and shine.

We give thanks to God for the success of this year’s retreat as we look forward to the 2023 edition.
