Brief History: The Zwedru Christian Church started when few disciples from Accra Ghana returned to Liberia and went to settle in their county of origin- Grand Gedeh County. The disciples were a) Cooper Penwu and his wife, Theresa Penwu and b) Romeo Shaka. These three (3) disciples were converted in Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire where they lived as refugees. Those three kept meeting together as a family group. In January 2015 a brother (native of Grand Gedeh County) and his wife donated US$12,000.00 to see that more people of his county come to know God. Inspired by the Holy Spirit through prayers the leadership of Monrovia Church expressed to the Church the need of a couple to volunteer to serve in a full time basic in Zwedru. Brother Emmanuel Kollie and his wife Wrottee Kollie (they were leading the Monrovia church’s married ministry and assisting in the central sector of the church) volunteered then after quitting their jobs in Monrovia to go and save people in Zwedru City and its surroundings. They were therefore sent in the middle of February 2015. A missionary team from Monrovia Church comprised of five brothers and five sisters were also sent along for massive evangelism in view of the official launching of the Zwedru Christian Church. God blessed with one baptism before the official launching service which took place on March 1, 2015 at the Zwedru City Hall. The service was well attended with 250 persons with the special presence of the County Acting Superintendent and the Assisting City Mayor. Since then God is continuously adding to the number of the three first disciples and the leading couple many souls.
