The International Church of Christ (ICOC) Warri marked a momentous milestone as it celebrated its 30th Anniversary with a grand event that showcased rich cultural displays, heartfelt recognitions, and inspiring spiritual messages. The celebration brought together church leaders who have guided the congregation since 1995, as well as members and friends from beyond Nigeria, including those who sent in goodwill messages from abroad.
A significant highlight was the presentation of plaques to honor two fallen heroes of faith who played pivotal roles in the church’s history: the late Dr. Emmanuel Urhobo, who led the church from his sitting room, and the late Evangelist Wole Adegbola, who led alongside Angela Ige from 1997 to 1998. The event also recognized other influential past leaders, including Bola & Bola Shoboyejo, Jide & Biola Ojo, Wasiu & Martina Ajao, John & Margaret Obaje, Olaolu & Abiodun Karunwi, with Lead Evangelist Jide Ojo leading the acknowledgment before delivering the sermon.
Jide Ojo’s sermon, themed “Through His Might” (Isaiah 40:29), recounted his personal experiences during his leadership amidst the ethnic crisis that rocked Warri. Despite the tensions between Ijaw and Itsekiri communities, the church remained united, meeting regularly on Sundays and midweek services. His testimony of faith and resilience inspired the congregation, emphasizing that their strength came from God’s power.
The celebration also featured a vibrant cultural display, including dramas and dance performances representing the Urhobo, Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Anioma cultures. The Kids’ Kingdom showcased children from ages 3 to 12 performing to the trending gospel song “No Going Back.”
In addition to the cultural festivities, the event was marked by a special birthday celebration for Mama Mary Chibuogwu, who celebrated her 80th birthday on the same day. Attendees enjoyed an abundance of food, with each family hosting their guests in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The event served as a powerful reunion, reaching out to many brothers and sisters who had left the church over the past 20 years, many of whom responded positively and attended the celebration. The hall was filled to capacity, with additional chairs arranged outside to accommodate everyone.
During the event, Kemi Olufowobi announced the transfer of the current leaders, Olaolu & Biodun Karunwi, back to Lagos, marking a significant transition in the church’s leadership.
The total attendance was estimated at about 400 people, a testament to the unity and growth of the church community. The planning committee and all volunteers, supported by divine guidance and generous contributions from friends and disciples, ensured the event concluded in praise and thanksgiving.
Looking ahead, the church eagerly anticipates greater feats and continued spiritual growth in Warri and neighboring cities within Delta State. All glory and honor belong to God for making this celebration a memorable and impactful event.
