ICOC Benin Young Christian Ministry

An Interactive Session with the Church Leadership Group

In the future, when your so asks you, “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the LORD our God has commanded you?” tell him: “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.” Deuteronomy 6:20-21

This year 2020 has been a fruitful year for the church in Benin City as the Lord added to our number 12 new baptisms!

The church saw the need to establish a young Christian ministry in order to nurture and create a platform for spiritual growth and bonding among them. As part of its activities, the young Christians have been undergoing equipping classes for the past six weeks. During the classes, some of them ask some questions that are not included in the study guide.

In order to provide answers to their concerns and ensure accurate and correct information is passed to the young Christians, a three hour interactive session between them and the leadership group was organized. The session was also used to validate from the bible, why we do what we do (our beliefs, culture and values as ICOC). Seventeen questions were asked among which were: Who established ICOC? What are the secrets of spiritual growth? What does the ICOC leadership structure look like? What does it take to be a church leader/Evangelist? Why are women not allowed to preach during congregational meetings? What are the steps/processes of dating and marrying in the kingdom? Why must a disciple marry a disciple? Etc.

The session was held after the Sunday congregational service on 23rd August, 2020 at the church auditorium. This afforded many other disciples to participate and were reminded of many things about our church as a movement. It was a learning and inspiring moment for the young Christians as some of them said they were impressed at the way the leaders and some of the old disciples were answering them with references to the bible passages.

I was really impressed at Mr. Uyi, that old man was just backing every of his statements with the scriptures!” David Godwin said.

At the end of the session, a word of exhortation was done by one of the leaders, while each young Christian was presented with a copy of the church’s study guide.
