Article: A Defining Choice

The choice of a spouse is unarguably one of the most important decisions we will ever get to make. A great sister and friend who has known me for many years recently shared her deep joy to see God’s Hand in my life. And she added this: “Especially the fact that you got married to Perita.”

From her vantage position, she is well placed to see the positive impact of my union on my walk with God and overall outlook on life. It is a decision that took many years for me to come to terms with;  the choice of a spouse.

I remember studying the life of King Solomon as a single man and ended up weeping because of the heights from which he had fallen, from a very intimate relationship with God as he dedicated the temple to an idolatrous man – because of his choice to marry many wives from heathen nations.

In the face of pressure to get married, it is easy to allow circumstances to prevail on the final choices we make. I got to a point where I decided that I would instead remain single and happily serving the Lord than rush into a relationship that would drag me down.

If you are single, please think twice before rushing into marriage. Trust God in the decision-making process and allow Him to order your steps.
