Article: Motivation to Live Right

The words of the song “My Hope is built on nothing less” jumped out of the projector screen yesterday as we sang at the beginning of church service. They seemed to answer a rhetorical question that had been ringing in my mind.

What does it take to rise above the fear of rejection? How do we overcome the fear of man to focus on doing what is right in the eyes of God? The songwriter (Edward Mote) leans wholly on Jesus’ name and rests on His unchanging grace, refusing to trust the sweetest frame.

At critical times in my walk with The Lord, I have had to remind myself that I am not here to please men but to live for God by being true to self, to others and ultimately to a God who knows and sees everything.

During such seasons, a deeper understanding of concepts like the grace of God has often brought a profound sense of security. The thought of being clothed in “His righteousness alone” strengthens and reassures the soul.

What a great place it is to be, when our hope is genuinely built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness, standing on Christ the solid rock. Reliance on religious systems, keeping to a set of rules or seeking to please men has indeed proven to be a snare, sinking ground indeed.

May God’s unconditional love and His amazing grace be our true motivation, teaching us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives throughout this new week and beyond!
