Article: The Power of Goodwill

Yesterday was quite a memorable day spent within the premises of my former company. I needed some help from the IT guy who served us for about five years and also had some work done while waiting for my wife.

Once I walked through the gates, I was warmly welcomed by the security-men, the facility manager, two of the top engineers, office assistants, the drivers etc. It is evident that we had missed seeing each other. I couldn’t help but be moved by the excitement level of all those I met who knew me. There was a genuineness about their joy. It’s difficult to describe what I felt.

I have actually been given an office space within the premises for my use by the Head of Human Resources of the company.

On the other hand, the company has been going through a really tough time with the current economic crisis. One of the former staff described the company as being much more than a business – it is a school. It has trained some of the best IT personnel within corporate Nigeria.

The lessons for me are huge – beyond the daily grind of our business and professional activity, let us take time to be human, to smile at people, to show concern and humanity. We will be refreshed by these same people when it matters the most.

The Bible encourages us to be rich in good deeds, which God prepared in advance for us to walk in them.

Who can you refresh today as you go about your daily business?
