Women: Having an Excellent Attitude in Leadership – An Ikeja-Ketu/Ikorodu Region Women’s Ministry Initiative
The Women’s Leadership Retreat for all cadres of leaders (Zonal, Family Group, Special Ministry and Bible Talk Leaders) in the Ikeja-Ketu and Ikorodu regions of the church in Lagos, tagged Having an Excellent Attitude in Leadership, which held from January 12-14 2018 was a resounding success.
More than 50 women leaders from both regions were in attendance.
It started with the arrival and check in of participants – into their rooms in the Ostra Hotel (venue of the two day retreat) located at Alausa – Ikeja.
Opening exhortation by Stella Emeka (Women’s Ministry leader of the Ikeja-Ketu Region), was taken from the book of Exodus 19:5, and 1 Pet 2:9-10. Reminding the women leaders of their special and privileged position, to be chosen as God’s treasured possession, to whom He had entrusted with the task of loving and feeding of their fellow sisters in His Kingdom – with an excellent attitude.
Her message was followed by the viewing of a powerful Movie titled ‘Eight Below ‘ which was loaded with many great lessons on leadership, commitment, unity of purpose, obedience, resilience, and great faith – that truly convicted and inspired the hearts of the women.
Saturday’s program kicked off with an exciting time of praise and worship and prayer by different women.
Weyinmi Igbinoba – wife of one of the elders of the Lagos Church, led the morning devotional. Her class on ‘Humility in Leadership’ – Phil 2:5-8, Luke 1:26-38 – pointed to Jesus our Lord as an example of a very humble leader, and Mary his mother who had an attitude of a servant, and did not become entitled because of her exalted position. She reminded the women to never forget that their role as leaders is not a title but an honor, responsibility and privilege that requires great service.
Rolayo Ogbonnaya – The church’s women ministry coordinator and wife of the lead evangelist-taught a class titled “The Attitude of a Good Shepherd”. In her message – taken from Ezekiel 34:1-17, she encouraged the leaders to grow in their love and commitment to the women in their care – like a good shepherd, one who imitates God’s heart and shepherding.
Funmilayo Adesanya and Kemi Fagbuluje – ended the days session with a class on – ‘Leadership With an Extra Mile Spirit’ – encouraging the women to make every effort in their leadership to know and meet the needs of the women in their care while depending on God to meet theirs.
The final day – being a Sunday dawned very bright and beautiful. The women had a communion service. Busola Dasilva – the Women’s ministry leader of Ikorodu Region -drew the hearts of the women to the cross, encouraging them from 2 Cor 5:14 – 15 – to live for Christ always.
The Keynote address – ‘Having an Excellent Attitude in Leadership’ – was given by Stella Emeka. She shared from Mark 7 :37 – calling the women to imitate the excellent attitude of Jesus in service “He did EVERYTHING well” and to do that – there’ll be need for deep love for God, as expounded in John 21:15-17, and how that love should be the motivating factor in leadership. She exhorted them to be mindful of their role as women’s leaders who have been entrusted with the responsibility to feed and take care of Jesus’ disciples, and excellent attitude is required in order to render a good and acceptable service to her women. She said that having an excellent attitude in leadership would promote action and it will reflect in one’s demeanor and the way one goes about their responsibilities.
The goal of the classes was to ignite a passion for leading selflessly and being a great shepherd to Jesus’ flock.
The retreat finally came to an end at 12 noon, and the women where greatly encouraged by all they’d learned and the awesome times of fellowship. With bags packed the women began to depart – subtly reluctant – to return to their homes after 2 exclusive nights of fellowship and encouragement.
We look forward to sharing tons of good news appertaining to the retreat whilst counting down to the next one in 2019.
What a Great way to kick start the new year!
