Campus: The Outstanding Academic Excellence Story of Uyime Akpan

‘’Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings…’’ – Proverbs 22:29 (NIV)

Born in Ojota, Lagos State on 25th April, 1992 to the family of Mr and Mrs Udeme and Ufon Akpan was a baby girl whose academic journey began as a two-year old at Mictec International School, Ogudu Road, Ojota, Lagos.

In 1997 she proceeded to Tender Care Nursery and Primary School also here in Lagos (Ojota to be precise) to conclude her primary education. While at Tender Care, her exceptional qualities could not go unnoticed by the school authorities as she was appointed the school’s Head Girl.

Expectedly, she moved on to secondary school and this took her to Immaculate Heart Comprehensive High School, Maryland, in Lagos in the year 2001. It is noteworthy to mention at this juncture that Immaculate Heart was a public school with her class (JSS1) alone having a population of 103 students. And as it was characteristic of her, this young beautiful and brilliant girl from the Akpan family took first position out of 103 in her set.

Due to this outstanding performance, in the year 2002, her late father decided to take her to a private school. Her next port of call was Livingstone Model College, Ketu. While at Livingstone (still in her junior secondary school years), she bagged 2 different awards from Lagos State Government under the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration as best debating student, a feat that was published in the Punch newspaper.
This exceptionally brilliant girl continued her secondary education at Livingstone Model College and was appointed Deputy Head Girl and President Literary & Debating Society of the College.  She in 2008 graduated as best student (academics) and also became her school ambassador the same year.
She obviously was not going to rest on her laurels; she gained admission into Akwa Ibom State University in 2011 to study Computer Science. After 4 years of dedication, hard work, diligence and unparalleled discipline, she graduated as pioneer best graduating student in the Department of Computer Science of the University with a cumulative grade point average of 4.37. Her performance attracted the kind gesture of the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State His Excellency Godswill Akpabio CON who personally handed her a cash gift of a N100, 000.

In further recognition of her academic excellence, she was offered a job as a lecturer by the Akwa Ibom State University her alma mater.  In addition to the job offer, she was also awarded a scholarship by the university to proceed on her Masters and PhD degrees at any university of her choice anywhere in the world immediately after her NYSC programme which commences in November, 2015.

She has been a disciple for 8years and serves in the communion ministry of the Church.

Of course, this stunning, brilliant, intelligent and highly scholarly young lady belongs to the supersonic, awesome, and ever charged-up region of the Lagos Church called Ikeja-Ketu-Mowe Region.
