2015 ICOC NIGERIA YOUTH CORP – DAY FOUR

Children are one of the priceless gifts God keep blessing us with as Christians and as such we must always bear in mind that we are major role players on how their tomorrow is built!!!

The days are rolling by; the excitement is getting more and more intriguing.

Time is of essence even in the building process. This is the first class thought today. The appropriate use and management of time is a factor that cannot be overemphasized. The children showcased in an art form, what is priority for them and how they can allocate specific time to achieve those things. They were given Water, Sand and Stone representing needs, wants and hobbies to manage.

 “One man’s meat is another man’s poison” a popular African saying depicts exactly what happened in the second class as campers discussed what fun really means to them. Some said fun is going to church, swimming, dancing, going to the bar, etc. These are just different ways people see fun. The gist went on until Stella Emeka and John Onumiyan were able to play Ecclesiastes Chapter 2 like a movie into the minds of the Teens. They saw Solomon, who was considered as the man who had the most fun in the Bible. He had money, slaves, mansions, a kingdom, gold, silver and whatever you consider wealth. He was so famous and wise that Queen Sheba traveled far just to behold his majesty. So you can imagine what caliber of a king Solomon was. He explored and had adventures every kind of pleasure ever known under heaven; 300 wives, 700 concubines, and all. But having indulged in all these pleasures or fun as we may call it, he regrettably said in the same Ecclesiastes 12 ‘having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion: Fear God and keep His commandments, because this is the whole duty of man. For God will evaluate every deed, including every secret thing, whether good or evil’

At this juncture, it dawned on all the teenagers that some of the things they consider fun now (being young and restless) may end up becoming their undoing. But one thing I am certain of is that the facilitators drove home the aim of the class.

While all this was going for the Teenagers, the pre teens engaged in how they will release their Nollywood Movie titled…..stop guessing I will give you the title, just hold your breath.

Life is just like Craft… you pick it, cut it, sew it, gum it, join it…it may not be making a lot of sense but keep going and finally, when you put all the pieces together, you build a perfect tomorrow.

As part of this year’s Camp programme, Campers were expected to carry out at least one Community Project regionally. These Projects were duly performed, and it was incredible how they washed cars, polished shoes, etc to raise funds for their projects. They visited several special places; orphanages, rehabilitation centers, schools, hospitals, localities, etc to impact the lives of others who are challenged in several ways.

During one of the presentations, we saw one of the places they visited, The School for the Blind Center, Lagos as they used the funds raised to repaint the classrooms, they cleaned the school environs thoroughly and finally gave the students food items, clothes, shoes and even sang to them. The Teenagers expressed their profound gratitude to God for giving them so much to share with others. One of the Teenagers admitted that it was a sober experience for him and he has resolved to positively improve in every area of his life.

The Bulls did it!!!!! The Bulls are currently leading with a highest point of 149 but the Tigers and Wolves have vowed not to relent and from what I gathered, they are cooking something for other Platoons.

Luckily the Eagles have personally assured me that they are not bothered how many points the Bulls may be having now; that ‘it’s not who starts first but who finishes last’ They said they will show everyone that they are the only ones that can soar to the highest mountain.
