Women: ICOC Accra Celebrates International Women’s Day 2025

On Saturday March 8, 2025, women of ICOC Accra caught on with the “One Voice One Purpose” refrain as they hosted a Brunch to celebrate International Women’s Day. It was organized by the youth (Campus and Young Professionals) and was a huge success.

As women we are very grateful to all our sisters in India who shared daily devotionals with us in the days prior to March 8. Our mantra for the day was, “Encourage a Woman Today”, inspired by Rom 15:6 – May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ

It was a celebration of womanhood and our identity as Jesus Christ’s body that “grows and builds itself up in love.” We were expecting 50 women at this event but God blessed us with an attendance of 66 women.

Valerie Mensah was the anchor for the day. We began with a game of Bingo led by Deon Davies which gave our guests the opportunity to learn about each other.

This was followed by a time of sharing good news. Sisters shared about the love and grace of God to help our guests find the same peace and joy that many of us had found in our faith. Some guests also had the opportunity to share their own good news as well. It was a time to honour God, to give Him the glory and to express our gratitude for the good things He has done and the blessings we have received from the Lord.

Then came time for brunch! The table was organised by Tryphena Opare and looked beautiful and inviting with an array of food items, flowers and candles as décor. There was so much to eat – salads, bread rolls, cinnamon rolls, pancakes, French toast, spring rolls, samosa, cup cakes and more. We enjoyed a great time of fellowship as guests ate and enjoyed each others company.

After brunch, Anna Dasse led another game titled “Get a word and preach”. Volunteers were asked to pick a word and act it by preaching for a minute or two for the guests to guess the word.

The main message for the day was preached by Daphne Parry. Based on Romans 15:5-6 she used a game of Chinese whispers to demonstrate how we can use our voices to preach the right message for the right outcome.

She further used harmony in music to demonstrate the beauty of being united in purpose. She encouraged the women to lift their voices as one, empower one another, and glorify God in unity.

Reading John 17:20-23 she stressed on having one heart and mind with the goal of being united in Christ Jesus.

As this event was a prelude to the main Women’s Day event slated for March 29th she left the audience in suspense and invited them to the upcoming program to hear more.

This was a very uplifting day for the young women of the Accra church. As women of faith, the planning of this event called us to embrace our purpose, stand together and uplift one another as a sisterhood. For all who were there, it was a time of fun, dancing, great fellowship and building new friendships.

God’s name was truly glorified in the success and beauty of the event. We look forward to many women making Jesus Lord of their lives in the weeks and months to come.
