2014 ICOC Lagos Junior Olympics – A Huge Success!
Olympics games are not just about sports, winning and inspirational athletes, they are also about healthy competition, applying positive mentality, bonding, overcoming challenges and building self-esteem.
Those were the major focus of the Kid’s Kingdom Ministry in Lagos as its first ever Kids Kingdom Olympics was held on the 13th of September, 2014 at the University of Lagos Sport Centre, Akoka.
The Games started at 10am prompt with a colourful match past as more than 500 children between the ages of 2 – 12 years, representing the 9 regions that make up the Lagos church (excluding the Campus Ministry), participated in a variety of fun sports and activities. But beyond the heroic performances of the competitors, the encouraging turn-out of spectators and diligent officials together worked in unison to provide a truly memorable event.
The activities of the day which include everything from relay races (the 2-3 age group was particularly hilarious) to Three-legged race, 50-yard dash, Tug of War, Lime on a spoon race, Catching the Train and the Back spin enabled the children to experience healthy competition among themselves, learn team spirit and have a memorable fun day as parents and their various regions cheered them on.
At the end of the keenly contested Games, the sparkling Whites of the Somolu-Mushin region were declared the Inaugural winners of the Junior Olympics with the Ogba-Agege and Surulere regions finished second and third respectively.
