Lagos, Nigeria | October 18, 2026
The International Church of Christ Nigeria (ICOCN) held its 2026 Annual General Conference (AGC) on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the Mission House, 1 Otunba Jobi Fele Way, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, with members also participating virtually.
The conference brought together church leaders, trustees, evangelists, administrators, and disciples to review the church’s activities, finances, membership growth, and strategic priorities. It also provided an opportunity for members to ask questions, raise concerns, and contribute to discussions about the future of the church.
Reviewing the Church’s Progress and Stewardship
The conference received reports from the Board of Trustees, the Lead Evangelist, and the Church Administrator. These reports highlighted progress in ministry, financial stewardship, property development, leadership, staff welfare, and the church’s mission across Nigeria.
The Board of Trustees reported on ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, improve accountability, manage church properties, and support the long-term sustainability of the church. Discussions also covered property-related matters, insurance, staff retirement planning, the central reserve fund, and the church’s business and professional initiatives.
The conference considered these matters within the broader responsibility of ensuring that church resources are managed faithfully and in support of the mission.

Membership Growth and Evangelistic Progress
The Lead Evangelist’s report highlighted the church’s continued commitment to spiritual growth, evangelism, discipleship, and leadership development.
According to the report, ICOC Nigeria recorded 149 baptisms and 16 restorations during the reporting period. The church also continued to invest in programs designed to strengthen faith and build a more spiritually grounded community.
A major teaching initiative during the year was Power Series No. 14, titled “Identity: Who We Are in Christ.” The series focused on helping disciples understand their identity in Christ and live out that identity in their daily relationships, service, and witness.
The report also highlighted leadership development, retreats, family and life-stage ministry programs, and the appointment of additional evangelists. Nathaniel Afamoh was appointed to serve in the Southeast, while Olabode Afeez and Monday Etim were appointed evangelists in the North-Central region.
The church also celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Owerri congregation, reflecting on the work of evangelism and discipleship that has sustained the church’s presence in different parts of the country.
Expanding the Church’s Reach Across Nigeria
The Administrator’s report placed emphasis on the church’s geographical reach and the opportunities that remain for evangelism and church planting.
The report recorded a membership figure of 3,045 and noted that the church had a presence in 93 of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas. This represents a significant opportunity for continued outreach, as many communities remain unreached by the church.
The church’s stated vision remains: “To know God and to make God known.”
This vision continues to guide the church’s efforts to strengthen existing congregations, develop leaders, reach new communities, and help more people become disciples of Jesus Christ.
The Administrator also reported on the church’s financial position, staffing, and its support for children through Chance for Africa, reflecting the importance of both ministry development and social responsibility.
2025 Audited Financial Statements Adopted
An important item of business was the presentation of the 2025 audited financial statements by the outgoing auditor, Mr. Bolaji Oyegoke.
Following the presentation and consideration of the report, the audited financial statements were adopted by the conference. The adoption reflected the church’s continued commitment to financial accountability and transparent reporting.
The conference also approved Messrs. Jegede J. Sam Jegede & Co., Chartered Accountants, as the church’s new auditor.
The change in auditor forms part of the church’s ongoing governance and financial oversight responsibilities.

New Trustees Ratified
The conference ratified the appointment of three new trustees to serve the church:
- Mrs. Funmilayo Adesanya — Lagos East
- Mr. Afam Uwadi — Lagos West
- Mr. John Onuminya — Lagos South
Their ratification marks a new chapter of service and responsibility as the church continues to strengthen its leadership and governance structures.
The conference also recognized the contributions of outgoing trustees Yetunde Bafun and Angela Ege, acknowledging their six years of service to the church.
Honouring Years of Faithful Service
The 2026 AGC provided an opportunity to recognize individuals whose years of service have contributed to the life and work of the church.
The following long-service awards were presented:
- 10 years: Abimbola Oyegunle and Omowumi Bolorunduro George
- 20 years: Abiodun Karunwi
- 30 years: Augusta Obasa, Shadrach Obasa, and Kemi Olufowobi
The recognition celebrated their years of commitment and service and served as a reminder of the importance of faithful, consistent contribution to the work of God.

Members Raise Questions and Share Concerns
The conference included an open question-and-answer session, during which members raised issues concerning church administration, pastoral care, communication, finances, governance, staff welfare, property matters, and ministry policies.
Other discussions addressed family meetings, emergency preparedness, first-aid arrangements, fire safety, modest dressing, and the need for effective communication between church leadership and members.
The session reinforced the importance of listening to members and creating appropriate channels through which questions, suggestions, and concerns can be received and addressed. The Chairman indicated that the possibility of a dedicated platform for submitting questions and feedback would be explored.
The discussions also highlighted the need for continued engagement between leadership and congregations as the church works to strengthen unity, accountability, and effective ministry.
Looking Ahead
The 2026 Annual General Conference concluded with prayer and a motion for adjournment.
The conference reaffirmed the importance of responsible leadership, financial stewardship, evangelism, discipleship, and active participation by members. It also highlighted areas requiring continued attention, including church expansion, property matters, staff welfare, communication, pastoral care, and administrative accountability.
As ICOC Nigeria looks ahead, the challenge remains to build on the progress recorded, address outstanding concerns constructively, and strengthen the church’s ability to serve its members and reach more communities across the country.
The conference closed with a renewed call for unity, faithful service, and a shared commitment to the mission of making God known.
