ICOC Nigeria Appoints New BOT Chairman at Church’s Annual General Conference

The 2012 Annual General Conference of the ICOC in Nigeria was held last Saturday in Lagos with the appointment of a new Chairperson.

It was a remarkable meeting with many achievements. To begin with, the meeting was carried on at a brisk pace, though the agenda was loaded.

After a brief welcome and short worship session, remarks from the erstwhile board chairman, Mrs. Ovota Iyamu set the ball rolling. In her speech, read by a representative, Mrs. Funmi Aileru, the chairman revealed that several regions had purchased parcels of land for building places of worship. These included the Islands region – 6 plots in the Lekki Free Trade Zone; Ikorodu – 3. She threw light on several financial plans including the creation of a Reserve account opened recently for investment, and the purchase of 2 plots of land in Ajah/Lekki axis by the church in Lagos

Mrs. Iyamu announced her retirement from the board, as well as Mrs. Dupe Ogunro’s. In their place, Mr Uwamai Igein and Dr Francis Okogwu were elected to the board.

A new chairman, Mr Ndubuisi Eke was also appointed. Eke has been a disciple since 1990. He promised to build upon the achievements of the outgoing chairman.

In his address, the church administrator, Mr Sam Onuoha, took the audience that comprised of delegates from the Lagos Church, as well as churches across Nigeria and the church in Ghana, through the churches financials in the last 12 months. The highlights include a 3% gain in income, and a 14% rise in expenditure, N41.3 million in 2012 as against N35.3 million last year.

He added that construction work on the Ikeja facility had reached 95% completion. On the Surulere property, he revealed that all document fees had been paid. Other churches pursuing property acquisition include Abuja, currently in the process of purchasing in Nasarawa State, as well as Uyo that has rented a facility. He also announced the establishment of an Internship programme to train prospective and existing members of the church’s ecclesiastic staff.

A new development for disciples to expect is the prospect of new church plantings in Awka, Anambra State, Owerri, Imo State, Osogbo, Osun state, and Markudi, Benue state.

Long service awards were given to members of staff in the following categories; 10 years – Mr. Olaolu Karunwi; Mrs Tunrayo Elugbadebo. 15 years –Mr. Jide Elugbadebo; Mrs Margaret Obaje, Mr Jide and Mrs Abiola Ojo and Sam Onuoha. The 20 year award went to Mr. Chris and Mrs Rolayo Ogbonnaya.

One notable highlight of the day was the calm atmosphere and the cammaderie of the question and answer session, totally devoid of the heatedness of similar sessions at past conferences.

The working sessions followed, after good news sharing by leaders of the satellite churches, reports from Hope Worldwide, and ICOC ACCORD Project, as well as the Lead Evangelist’s address.

He stressed the need to win our families and communities for Christ, through, the quality of our marriages, parenting, the lives of singles, and members of the campus ministry, adding that the young children were also important because they are the future.
