Article: Refreshing Grace

Article: Refreshing Grace

Teaching from the book of Romans at one of the midweek services in Accra last night was a great reminder of how refreshing a deeper understanding of grace can be to the soul. Once we have been pre-conditioned to get things done out of legalistic righteousness, it takes some unlearning to reverse things by serving because we are saved rather than do so to feel liberated.

Even in the corporate world, it has been established that great companies are those who operate from the “Why” before addressing the “What” and “the How” of what they do. The former addresses the “Why” or our motivation for doing what we do. The Christian life is a response to God’s grace offered to us through Jesus and not another set of rules we need to abide by to be or feel saved.

Whereas studying the Bible or sharing our faith with others encourages or strengthens the Spirit inside of us, the feeling can be mistaken for one of being saved. I am not more or less saved when I have shared my faith or studied the Bible with a friend but sharing my faith with friends is a natural outcome of my being saved.

It is such a blessed thing to be secure in God’s grace and operate from that vantage position.

How are you doing in this area? Are you still living a life of guilt or are you overflowing with gratitude for the salvation that has been freely offered to us in Christ Jesus?
