Article: Leadership – Taking a Stand

One of the programs my wife and I look forward to every weekend is Fareed Zakaria’s program titled GPS on CNN. He is such a renowned and sound journalist with a very educative program.

Last Sunday’s edition was dedicated to an exclusive interview he had with France’s youngest leader since Napoleon, Emmanuel Macron.

It has been said that history makes us wise. Emmanuel Macron had invited over 50 world leaders this past weekend to jointly learn from the lessons of the first world war that ended precisely a century ago.

I must confess my admiration for Macron for his learned mind, even how bilingual he is, but mainly his political conviction that his reforms are unpopular at the moment, but generations will be grateful that he stood his grounds to carry out these reforms which many of his predecessors shied away from.

One of my concerns even in the Church today is that the human side of the institution easily wanes off personal biblical conviction. It is so easy to sacrifice personal belief for conformity or uniformity.

I believe the Church in every generation needs people like the apostle Paul who will internalize and live out biblical convictions instead of letting God’s calling become just another religious tradition. Let’s not play Church but live out genuine personal convictions. As is said, “if you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything”.

May we not be found wanting in our generation. Amen!
